How does exhaust gas recirculation (AGR / EGR) work?
During exhaust gas recirculation (EGR), the exhaust gases from an internal combustion engine are redirected and reintroduced into the cylinders. Before this happens, the exhaust gases are cooled. This process allows for a reduction in NOx emissions.
What do you need an EGR valve for?
The EGR valve controls the exhaust gas recirculation as explained above. It uses an electromotor to regulate the amount of exhaust gases that are being recirculated
What happens if the exhaust gas recirculation valve is defective?
If the EGR valve is faulty, controlled exhaust gas recirculation cannot take place. This can lead to improper engine operation. Issues such as rough idling, hesitation, and even loss of power may occur. Additionally, the emission levels can be adversely affected, leading to increased emissions.
